The Opportunity

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a master surgeon and educator with the vision to create the premiere regional and national center for patient care programs for next Chair for the Department of Orthopaedic- Surgery. Given the medical center's explosive growth and national prominence this is a unique opportunity to build a world class Department in one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the country.

The Chair for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is responsible for the leadership of the department, including direct oversight of the budgetary responsibilities and human resources as well as ensuring the highest quality of care delivery. The Chair, working in collaboration with medical center leadership, will set the strategic vision and ensure its execution for the department, and have accountability for the department's clinical care delivery, research growth, educational programs and community service.

The Department

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center is committed to providing superb care to patients and engaging its educational community, which are driven by its team approach to the future of medicine. The UT Southwestern Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is composed of a team of orthopaedic surgeons, each of whom has subspecialty interests including: foot/ankle, general, hand and upper extremities, joint replacement, pediatric orthopaedics, spine, sports medicine, trauma, and fractures. The department is comprised of 68 faculty, 30 residents, and 1 orthopaedic fellow Richardson/Plano. UT Southwestern and Scottish Rite for Children partner for a pediatric fellowship with 5 fellows and recently approved a sports fellowship, whose first match is scheduled for 2025.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers an accredited five-year training program in orthopaedic surgery as well as a nationally recognized orthopaedic trauma fellowship based at Parkland Health & Hospital System. The primary objective of the Orthopaedic Residency Program is to provide comprehensive training for orthopaedic residents through the effective cooperation of the affiliated member institutions. Such training involves the careful integration of clinical and surgical training as well as exposure to basic science concepts relevant to orthopaedic surgery.

Education and Training

* M.D. or equivalent degree or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited institution.

* Board certification through the American Board of Orthopedic surgery.

* Eligibility for permanent, unrestricted licensure in Texas.

* Candidates must qualify for appointment at the Professor level at UT Southwestern.

Knowledge and Work Experience

* National and international reputation as a clinical leader within one of the orthopedic disciplines.

* Track record of achievement in team building, leadership, managerial and strategic thinking.

* An astute understanding of the factors critical to success of an academic orthopaedic clinical practice and a deep commitment to clinical excellence based on a patient-centered model of care.
