Summary

Responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, testing and calibrating all types of electrical energy metering and related equipment. Also, responsible for successfully completing the Apprentice Meter Technician Program through the City of Garland Electric Department.

Salary: Depending on qualification and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Test the accuracy of meters used for recording electric current consumption.

  • Install, disconnect, remove and reconnect electric power meters used to record current consumption of residential, commercial and industrial customers.

  • Operate electronic equipment to locate and identify buried conductors underground.

  • Identify, analyze and repair system disturbances and abnormalities.

  • Work with voltage up to 600 V unsupervised.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Apprentice Training and Progression Program in electrical energy metering or related area.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of meter reading software

  • Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Skill in installing and calibrating electrical energy metering equipment.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to learn and develop through an instructional program.

  • Ability to work on hot secondary unsupervised.

  • Ability to obtain Texas Class "A" CDL within 90 days of hire.

  • Ability to complete the Garland Power & Light Apprentice Meter Technician Program as it is outlined.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Texas Class "C" driver's license.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works outdoors on construction sites and around parameters of buildings with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
