Job Summary

As a member of the Information Resources (IR) team, the Genomics Analyst plays a pivotal role in driving the use of Epic's genomics by interpreting genomic data for patients who want to learn about their own genomes and researchers who want access to a rapidly growing repository of genomic data and findings. This position is key in the acceleration for connecting to multiple Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) lab implementation and offers technology for determining the sequence of DNA or RNA to study genetic variation associated with disease and other biological phenomena. Connecting with multiple labs revolutionizes and enables UTSW to cost-effectively analyze large amounts of DNA and offer pharmaceutical services and other interventions for our patients. Our preferred candidate has genomics project experience and experience working in a healthcare environment and/or electronic patient records.

Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, information systems, or other related field required.
  • Three years (3) years progressively responsible business systems and/or Information Technology project experience, with exposure to systems or project development and testing, installation, and training, required.
  • Applicants without the stated degree, but with significant additional Information Technology systems and project experience, may be considered.
Specific Job Duties
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create a distinctive product vision for Epic as well as complimentary interfaced products that include electronic genomic orders for each lab/interface, PDF results, backload of historical results data, and discrete results for clinical decision support feature that will enhance precision medicine for each individual patient.
  • Support the building of process and patient outcome metrics that reflect best clinical practice for a variety of patient populations based on gene variances and conditions. This will support our NCI Cancer Center designation for scientific leadership in laboratory and clinical research, in addition to education for biomedical and health professionals.
  • Assist in providing internal and member facing clinical consultation regarding definition, interpretation, and calculation of quality metrics from CMS and other standards organizations.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing of new product releases to assure they address clinical accuracy, appropriate clinical workflow, and clinician usability.
  • Implement and support new technologies and special projects to enhance the analytical/reporting performance and Clinical Decision Support of the department. Genomics analysis.

Additional Duties
  • Collects and interprets specifications required to develop new, and revise existing, software applications.
  • Assists managers with development and implementation of operational plans for new and existing business computer applications, including preparation of user specifications.
  • Coordinates testing of new applications and changes to existing applications to ensure integrity and quality of data while providing and/or assisting in training of system users.
  • Compiles complete, concise, and comprehensive policies and operation procedures to assist in communicating Information Resources issues to applicable management staff.
  • Assists in development of new system administrative procedures required, utilizing new functionality resulting from system changes.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business Information Resources strategies to improve operational processing and productivity.
  • Responsible for monitoring development of specifications and establishing priorities for accomplishing design and testing of various projects.
  • Reviews, develops, recommends, and implements activities related to assigned activity, program, or function. Maintains and tracks accounts assigned to projects or programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
