Job Description

As a Sr. Planner/Buyer, you will be trusted to plan, schedule, order and manage raw material components to support the Master Production Schedulers' build requirements of sub-assemblies and Finished Goods Inventory (FGI) in an accurate and timely manner with little supervision at our Fort Worth North Manufacturing Facility in Fort Worth, TX.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Optimize procurement activities to ensure materials availability while minimizing inventory costs.
  • Ensure prompt disposition of defective materials, including excess and obsolete, and ordering the optimum quantity of materials on time.
  • Improve the speed and accuracy of buying and planning processes (e.g., supplier kanbans, just in time deliveries, material planning analysis, new supplier sourcing).
  • Minimize the total cost of purchased materials (e.g., apply blanket purchase orders/long term purchase agreements, Contract Manufacturing Agreements, contract negotiations using value/cost analysis techniques).
  • Participate in CIP activities to obtain the best value for Alcon.
  • Monitor and manage delivery of raw materials to assure or eliminate production downtime.
  • Maintain MRP parameters such as safety stock, safety lead time, lot sizing and other order parameters, and adjust future materials plans to minimize inventory while maintaining required customer service levels.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing system data to ensure customer service levels and inventory costs are not impacted by data integrity problems, as well as overall compliance with all Quality and Regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in new product launch teams as both an OP's and Materials representative and ensure components are procured and production builds are issued to meet product release schedules.
  • Evaluate proposed ECNs and product phaseouts and establish appropriate plans to minimize implementation and/or phaseout costs, consistent with the requirements of the plan.
  • Keep work areas clean and free of hazards or dangerous conditions and work safely.
  • Perform and document routine assessments of area to identify/confirm ongoing compliance to safety and housekeeping requirements.
  • Define material requirements that support the production schedule.
  • Analyze and act on MRP suggested actions to schedule purchased material in accordance with inventory policy, to assure continuous availability and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Collaborate with coworkers to meet business objectives and enhance team capability.
  • Develop personal knowledge and skill, continuously learn, and complete all required training.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to accomplish objectives.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Production, QA, and Planning to stay aware of production schedule changes.
  • Work with Material Handling on inventory movements.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
  • 2 Years of Relevant Experience
  • Work hours: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Purchasing experience within a pharmaceutical or medical device company.
  • Purchasing Experience with both domestic and international Suppliers.
  • Experience with MRP, preferably using the SAP system.
  • Experience with engineering changes.
