What you will do:

JCI is looking for a highly motivated professional who will provide ingenuity and technical expertise in a world-class organization. This person will lead the electrical sustaining engineering team to continuously improve legacy products and design custom equipment per customer's special requests. This includes ownership of all electrical engineering design elements and regulatory compliance. This position collaborates with the engineering test lab to ensure design validation testing is successful; product marketing to meet customer requirements; and operations to ensure design for manufacturing is implemented and build documentation is continuously improved.

How you will do it:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of electrical engineers/designers to design, develop, test, qualify, and troubleshoot commercial HVAC equipment. This includes Fan Coil Units, VAV Terminal Units, and Air Handler Units. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sustaining Team Management

  • Drive a positive culture that promotes a 'One Team' mentality across all business functions.
  • Oversee project resources, schedules, and budgets.
  • Review special quote requests and oversee custom order design.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for electrical engineering principles.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and sales teams to prioritize high-value engineering change requests.
  • Oversee engineering change requests, design documentation, and approvals.
  • Maintain on-time delivery goals for engineered custom orders.
  • Initiate continuous improvement to reduce cycle time and increase product quality and performance.
  • Develop technology roadmaps and perform technology reviews.
  • Work with suppliers to develop new solutions and qualify alternate parts.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams on technology and best practices.
  • Ensure AHRI, ASHRAE, and UL regulatory standards are followed.
  • Formulate test plans and analyze results to make informed design engineering decisions.
  • Oversee prototype and pre-production builds.
  • Lead team to identify and implement VAVE projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in identifying root cause for field service claims.
  • Support engineering ISO documentation and audits.

Staff and Admin

  • Maintain staffing through hiring, promotions, and changes in responsibility
  • Create, manage, and deliver training for: Technical subjects, processes, and design guides. Safety. Ethics & Integrity. Employee onboarding and development
  • Establish employee goals and conduct quarterly reviews
  • Perform organizational talent reviews and employee development plans.
  • Support employee engagement and recognition.
  • This job has supervisory responsibilities for the Largo, FL engineering team.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace engineering from an accredited four-year College or University is required. Electrical preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience leading an engineering team
  • 7+ years of experience with electrical design
  • A candidate must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations, and agency standards. They must also possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, work instructions, effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate values such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, air flow, heat transfer, and sound power by applying concepts from algebra, geometry, statistics, trigonometry, differential equations, and physics.
  • Be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time to respective laboratory or manufacturing locations and business offices.
