Job Description

To provide the job summary and principal duties set forth for a Telecommunicator (Call-taker) serving Med-Trans in numerous jurisdictions within the United States.

One of the Telecommunicator roles for Med-Trans is that of Call Taker.

Call Taker

It is the responsibility of the Telecommunicator to answer incoming Emergency and Non-emergency calls using established call triage procedures, assigning those calls to the appropriate dispatcher/flight follower while maintaining a professional, courteous demeanor. These calls must be held with the highest regard as the Call Taker speaks in a clear and concise manner.

Providing a high level of customer service.

Answer all incoming emergent and non-emergent calls for service while collecting important information from the caller, determining the caller's needs and entering the required information into the Computer Aided Dispatch System. Notify other agencies for action required.

Obtain necessary certifications within the first 2 months of employment (Provided by Med-Trans) or provide current copies of required certifications upon employment and maintain certification over the course of employment.

Understands, adequately implements and demonstrates compliance of training as per guidelines (and as customized by Med-Trans) as a minimum standard of care.

Speaks in an effective and efficient manner while maintaining a professional appearance and courteous demeanor with all internal or external customers to ensure a professional working environment.

Assists dispatchers/flight followers as needed.

Responsible and accountable for completeness and accuracy of paperwork related to his/her position prior to completion of shift.

Responsible for accurate and complete data entry for the shift.

Responsible for generating applicable reports and checking for accuracy as directed.

Assist coworkers as needed.

Work with other departments to ensure mutual organizational goals are pursued and achieved.

Support, maintain and uphold established corporate and developmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement and safety standards.

Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through internal certification opportunities.

Maintain all department required certifications/licensures, working knowledge of applicable center equipment and applications, attend department meetings, training sessions and participate in quality improvement activities as they relate to all established standards.

Other duties as defined by the formal job description.

Availability to work Nights, Weekends, and Holidays.

High school diploma or GED

Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.

Must be able to attain Required Certifications as part of the internal training program.

Must understand Medical Terminology.

Must type 32 words per minute and pass the CritiCall exam with a minimum score of 80%.

Possess or obtain the following certificates from FEMA ICS:
